Train Like An Olympian/Paralympian!

What am I talking about? 70,000 people..... 20 years of training.... 6 throws.... 1 stadium.... and ME sitting at one end of the Sydney Olympic Stadium in my Australian Uniform.  It all came down to that one moment... if ever there was a time to panic.. this was it! Instead.. a calm came over me and I couldn't hear the 70,000 people cheering me on... I had complete focus.  Those 20 years of training all came down to this moment and 6 throws is all I had to make a difference..... 

Olympians & Paralympics understand the importance of the mind as they've trained their bodies to reach elite status. They've worked hard, committed to being the best and all of this could not be achieved unless their mind was highly focused and trained. The mind will always give up before our body...and yet, this is something we often neglect.

How do I know this? From my own personal experience.  That was me in front of the 70,000 people, and over the years there were many times I wanted to quit, to give up and to give it all away!
I committed myself to training hard, to be the best I could be and at times that seemed out of reach.  My mind would tell me I couldn't do it, I wasn't good enough?  I had to train my mind to be stronger, to block out the little voice in my head and to refocus.  Unfortunately, at the time I didn't have the tools I have today, I had to do it the hard way.

How can this help you? I'm here today so that you don't have to do it the hard way. How many of your clients have that little voice in their head? Telling them they can't do it, it's to hard? I don't want to train today? How many of your clients lack the motivation to even turn up to training? Do you find it hard work to train people who have already given up?  How much easier would it be for you to be able to switch your clients thinking and have them hitting their goals while increasing their confidence.

The TOP 3 findings from over 7,000 surveyed gym members conducted by the Australian Fitness Industry Survey (AFIS) revealed the following:

Finding #1 Members are NOT staying as long as they’d originally intended ... less than 12 months!

74 per cent of members reported that they planned to stay at their club for between 12 and 18 months; however, the survey showed that 60 per cent of active members and 54 per cent of lapsed members had only been members for between three and 12 months.

Solution - Use our training as a second income stream and help your client reach their personal and fitness goals!

Finding #2 Goal setting was mostly obtained from club staff!

When asked how they achieved results, many members responded that they used the guidance and advice provided by club staff (46 per cent), as well as self-motivation (34 per cent).

Solution - Build a strong rapport with your clients by helping them with SMART goals and keep them on track by increasing motivation!  Have them come to you for advice, not the front desk.

Finding #3 The poor communication of many trainers and staff was highlighted by many respondents, with the following comment typifying the feelings of many members; “I feel that the trainers are not very friendly, only if they need to sell their personal training to you will they give you a smile”!

Solution - Have your clients tell their friends about how their trainer totally gets them and let the referrals roll in!

The Australian Fitness Industry Survey indicates a greater focus must be made in the areas of retention, customer service, better communication and encouragement & incentives for gym clients.
